Rob maintains a litigation practice involving complex commercial and civil matters. He has day-to-day and overall management of a number of active, complex litigation files. Rob has acted in files concerning reinsurance, franchising law, real estate development, professional negligence, defamation, life insurance policies, and commercial leases.
Currently, Rob represents a major worldwide reinsurer in ongoing insolvency disputes. He also acts for clients in litigation over franchise agreements, and represents an insurance company in an investment-driven insurance dispute. Rob also acts for developers and investors in a large, complex real estate development file. Rob has appeared in both the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal.
Prior to joining Bates Barristers, Rob clerked at the Superior Court of Justice in Toronto. While at the Superior Court, Rob spent the majority of his time working on Commercial List cases involving oppression applications, disputes between financial institutions, challenges to arbitration awards, and industrial land development disputes. During law school, Rob worked as a summer student at Miller Thomson LLP and Lerners LLP.
Rob’s clerkship has provided him with unique insight into the judicial decision making process which allows him to understand judge’s needs and expectations. Rob is committed to offering his clients a high level of legal services on a timely and cost-efficient basis.
